Japan Open 98 and JSME Robotics-Mechatronics Symposia 98

RoboCup Japan Open 98 will be held in 9-11, April at TEPIA Hall in Tokyo, for all classes of league in conjunction with JSME (Japanese Society of Mechanical Engineering) Robotics and Mechatronics Symposia 98. Although this meeting is mainly for Japanese RoboCup researchers, overseas participants are also welcome. Those who are interested in participating should send e-mail to kitano@csl.sony.co.jp. Japan Open 98

The following leagues will be held:
1. Simulation League
Competitions between teams with 11 soft agents based on Soccer Server
2DSmall-Size Real Robot League
Competitions between teams with upmost 5 small-size real robots.
3. Middle-Size Real Robot League
Competitions between teams with upmost 5 middle-size real robots.
4DExhibition
Indutrial Exhibitions for RoboCup Tournaments.
Rules are the almost same as in RoboCup'98. Overseas participation is welcome. For those who wish to participate, please send e-mail to: jopen@er.ams.eng.osaka-u.ac.jp by Feb 28, 1998.

JSME Robotics Mechatoronics Symposia 98

We will hold the follwing three symposia.

1. Soft-Agent Challenge Symposium

Date: April 9, AM
Organizers: Itsuki Noda (ETL), Hitoshi Matsubara (ETL)
Purpose: We will discuss the issues closely related to the RoboCup simulatin league such as learning in multiagent environment, team strategy, modeling of opponents and so on.

2. Physsical-Agent Challenge Symposis

Date: April 10, AM
Organizers: Akihiro Matsumoto (Toyo Univ.), Sho'ji Suzuki (Osaka Univ.)
Purpose: We will discuss the issues closely related to the RoboCup real robot league such as basic skill acquisition, system construction for real robots and so on.

3. Infrastructure Challenge Symposum and Panel

Date: April 11, AM
Organizers: Koichi Hashida (ETL), Atsushi Shinjo (Gifu Softopia
Purpose: We will discuss the issues closely related to the RoboCup infrastructure and applications such as 3-D visualization, generation of narrations, education programs and so on. Further, we will hold a Panel of future RoboCups.
